Dog walking can be a tremendous stress reliever and bring immense happiness when the dog and owner are at one. However, some people dread dog walking as it can be a nightmare from start to finish if your dog pulls and is trying to run away. This is why it’s vitally important to train your dog and ensure that you and your dog have a walk you’ll both enjoy.

Daily walks will keep your Lovely Cavapoo / Cavoodle Pups happy and healthy. They’re small dogs and are hypoallergenic. Cavoodles shed no hair but need to be brushed weekly. Regular trimming and professional grooming are also required.

Is a Cavoodle a good family dog?

One of the best things about a Cavoodle is their loving personality and sweet disposition. … Cavoodles are the best dog breed for families of small children because of their gentle demeanor. They are very gentle dogs, and because they are small, they don’t tend to hurt children. Generally, they have a very agreeable temperament.

We’re using a head collar to help the pulling and it’s helping great! He doesn’t follow treats either even thought it’s beef.

My partner and I recently adopted a 2 year old Bernese cattle dog mix, and he is so sweet at home but gets super excited while on leash around the neighborhood. We bought a gentle leader head collar but I do like your recommendation of the front clip harness – it seems a little bit easier for a bigger dog. I also appreciate your tips on bringing high value treats and asking for permission to approach every stranger or dog owner. Our pup is definitely the reactive type and will need some more training, and some good quality snack distractions to keep him from pulling and rushing to greet everyone.

I have my dog sit when a vehicle approaches regardless which side of the road the vehicle is on. It lets the driver know that you are aware of them. Also I walk my dog on the inside and we walk towards on coming traffic.
There is not a lot of traffic but Teddy knows to stop and wait for me to tell him it’s okay to cross the street. Also for what it is worth I dislike retractable leashes. I agree that they are unsafe.

With the hot season coming, I’m glad you reminded us to bring water and to make sure the pavement is not too hot for the dog. When I was an amateur dog owner I didn’t really worry about this, and it definitely could have hurt my dog in the summer (I’m from the Northeast, but it still gets plenty hot in the summer!) Thanks for writing this article, I’m glad I found it!

I like the idea of adopting an older dog from a shelter now that I’m no longer working full-time. Maybe I’ll start shopping for a portable dog waste pouch so I can easily clean up after him during walks!

She wants to keep her active and playing, so I loved your tip to bring along treats to keep your dog focused away from distractions and to check if the pavement is too hot with your hand in the summertime. I think she’d enjoy these tips and might take him to an off-leash dog park soon for him to play and socialize.
