Peanut butter & pumpkin dog treats

Looking for a nice and simple dog treat recipe to try? These pumpkin & peanut butter dog treats are one of my favorites because they’re easy to prepare and quick to bake. And since my dog loves anything with pumpkin or peanut butter these always get a big seal of approval from her.

Tip: If you’re looking for more homemade dog treat recipes be sure to check our our list of 25 Simple Dog Treat Recipes, all made with 5 ingredients or less.

Ingredients

For these pumpkin and peanut butter dog treats you just three ingredients: flour, pumpkin and peanut butter.

  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 cup canned pumpkin
  • 1/2 cup peanut butter

I use Libby’s 100% canned pumpkin and Crazy Richard’s natural peanut butter. I used the chunky variety of peanut butter because it was what I had on hand, but if you want a more polished look stick with a creamy variety.

Important Note About Peanut Butter

When using peanut butter in dog treats always check to make sure it doesn’t contain xylitol. Xylitol is an artificial sweetener that a few brands use and it can be fatal to dogs. Check out this list for more information on which brands use xylitol in their products.

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375 F.
  2. Mix the pumpkin & peanut butter together in a large bowl.
  3. Stir in the flour and combine the mixture into a dough.
  4. Roll out the dough onto a floured surface.
  5. Cut into shapes with your favorite cookie cutter.
  6. Place treats onto an ungreased baking sheet, about a half inch apart.
  7. Bake for 12 minutes in the preheated oven.

If you don’t have any cookie cutters you can use a knife to cut out some shapes, use the top of a shot glass to carefully cut out circles, or make your own cookie cutters using a soda can.

Once the treats have cooled you can store them in an an airtight container for a week. Since this recipe makes so many treats I usually keep 1/3 of them in a container and freeze the rest for later.

This recipe yields 3 baking sheets worth of treats. Using a large cookie cutter (3 inches) you’ll get 60 individual dog treats.

I heard pumpkin is a great this to put in dog’s food to make them not eat poop so a dog treat with pumpkin would probably be helpful for those dog poo eaters! This recipe seems really simple.

I use these treats when training my dog. My dog just loves them. He will do anything I ask of him if he knows he will get “a bone”.

I make a recipe similar to this but with ground cinnamon. Dogs apparently like the scent of cinnamon because my doggy friends look alert before they even see the treats. The first time I tried these out, my neighbor’s normally well behaved, laid back red setter almost knocked me over when I walked in the door. My neighbor was mortified. I’ve
    named these Puppy Crack.

If so then why do I see cinnamon as an ingredient for some dog treat recipes?

I have made these several times, very easy. However, I recommend refrigeration as they got moldy in containers within 3 days.

    Great Dog treats!
I made a quad droplet batch.
Whole wheat flour, instead of white flour.
I made dog paws & dog bones. Adorable.
I tried to post a picture. I will make in my Pinterest picture.
Amazing, healthy, pumpkin helps heal the gut with bouts of diarrhea, or vomiting. Enjoy so so cute!
Great Christmas gifts for the pet lovers🐾

I made this for my two dogs and they can’t get enough of them. I found that they stay very moist. I just cooked 3 batches the other day. Like I said, they love them. I tried cooking them twice with the second time at 175 for 15 minutes. I put them in a couple zip lock bags and put them in the fridge after they were cool. The next day I cooked them again at 275 for 15 more minutes on the cooling racks on top of a cookie sheet so the air could circulate freely. The moisture is thankfully out of them and they are still fairly movable. Nothing really made them crispy but that’s fine with me. Great recipe!

Can you use the silicone molds to bake the treats? I have bone molds and paw molds. What do you think the baking time would be?

Absolutely NOT!!!!! Pie filling has allot of chemicals

Absolutely NOT!!!!!! Pie filling is full of chemicals and poison that will hurt your pooch. 100% pure pumpkin is what dogs can have.

I used gluten free flour and added extra pumpkin as it was a little dry. Next time I would use less flour. Both of our dogs love these treats and they are so much more healthier than store boughten, not to mention they cost so much less to make
